What We Look For
In the words of the great Bo Schembechler it’s all about “The Team, The Team, The Team”.
Team > Idea We invest in people, not ideas. When we are looking at a company to join the program the first thing we look at is the team. What matters to us is if your team has what it takes to execute on your idea. When it comes down to it about 70% of our decision comes down to the talent and personality mix of the team applying.
Solve Real Problems The next thing we look for is if your company is soliving a real problem. In practical terms that means your product or service is solving a problem that no one has solved or is a better solution to what currently exists in the market. Most importantly it means that there are people who are willing to pay you for the helping them solve their problem.
Small Towns. Big Ideas Our program is unique in that we are situated in a small town in Northern Michigan. We are passionate in our belief that technology can be used to help small towns and small businesses. Does your company do that? If so it could be a big boost to your chances of getting into the program.

Seed Capital. If you are accepted into the program you’ll receive $25,000 in seed funding in exchange for 6% equity.
Follow-On Funding. We believe in sticking with big ideas. Every company that goes through our program will have an opportunity to earn follow-on funding from Coolhouse or through one of our angel investors at the end of the program.
Ideas are a dime a dozen. Turning that idea into reality takes more than just the willingness take a risk. You need a bit of luck, some creativity, the right insights, and the connections to make your big idea come to life. No one makes it on their own. We’ve all had people who have helped us along the way. They’ve made the right connections. Helped us think differently about the problem we are trying to solve. We all need mentors.
There are many accelerator programs out there, and they all have one thing in common - mentorship as the “key” to their program. It’s true for us too, but the advantage of joining our small community is that all of our resources are focused on you and the companies in your class.
This is especially true for our mentors. Picture it. Lakeside in a summer wonderland. Clear water, quiet living, nice people and the most innovative young minds in America focused solely on re-thinking American business.
You and your team will be asked to move up to Harbor Springs for the summer and work out of our space for the length of the program (think of it as summer camp for startups). You’ll have collaborative space in which to work, hang out, eat, and relax, and you’ll be 2 blocks from the beach. Life isn’t so bad in Northern Michigan in the summer.
We will have a full staff of designers, developers, researchers, and strategists on hand to help your company get off the ground. Think of us as free help. We are also offering each company in the program some sweet tech perks, including:
$60,000 of Microsoft Azure Credits
$24,000 of Rackspace Hosting Credits
$12,000 of SoftLayer Hosting Services
$10,000 of Amazon Web Services Credits
$7,800 of Cloudability Pro
$6,000 of Development hours from Master of Code
And much more
